It was midday, after a couple hours of driving, when we finally could see Mt. Baker, jutting out of the hills. Vast glaciers covered the entire mountain, and the haze that surrounded us turned it into what looked like a painting. Surf up bro! This trip was personally one of my favorite boy scout trips ever with 457 and 647. There were so many fun things to do in Maui, and even though the weather may have been a little cloudy, and the accommodations not quite to resort standards, we still had a blast. We are loving the new canoe trailer, and getting to take it out on the Mercer Slough for the first time was a fun experience, with no bumps or problems. The canoeing itself was also a blast and we had a lot of fun learning more about the canoe, and having a good time with our friends outside. Our star mascot, Gus the corgi, fended off the wild geese to keep us safe.

Hiking the Skyline trail was like coming out of hibernation. There was not a cloud in the sky, and the weather was gorgeous. The snow capped peaks of Mt. Hood, Adams, and Rainier could be seen far and wide, and the Yakima Valley to our east was vast and rocky. The hike itself was a fun ascent up the Yakima Skyline with lots of terrain, some of which was covered with the tall prairie grasses of Eastern Washington. Lunch at the top was tasty, and the view was even better.

If there is one thing that I learned that day, it's that snow camping is the best camping. As many skiers would call it, it was a perfect bluebird day, and the snow was perfect for building snow caves and anything that we wanted. Hiking there in our snowshoes was so much fun, and then getting to hike up an additional 1000 ft to Panorama point, in which you could see Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, and then have the opportunity to slide all the way down on our bums. In the end, we were a

Here are some photos from the gorgeous Blake island camping trip that was taken out by our fabulous sea scouts on Memorial Day 2025. It was a lot of fun, and as seen in the photos, Mt. Rainier standing tall to the south with the Olympics to the west.
